6 Lessons We Learned From This Month's Beauty Box, Plus a First Peek Inside Our May Box
Maddie Aberman
April is almost over, and that means we've had nearly four weeks to play and experiment with all the goodies in this month's Allure Beauty Box. They've been fully integrated into our beauty routine, and we have plenty left to keep using thanks to the mix of deluxe-size samples and full-size products. In our weeks of testing, we picked up a few things that we thought we'd share. Plus, we've got a first glimpse of what's in store for May.
A slow-drying mascara is the answer to clump-free lashes. We layered on one, two, three, even up to four and five coats of L'Oréal Paris Voluminous Original Mascara, but because the pigment stayed wet longer than other mascaras and the wand was so bushy, there were zero, yes, zero clumps to be found.
Putting straight olive oil in your hair is too messy, but we still love the ingredient. Never has our hair felt softer than when we used Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Styling Créme pre blow-drying, and we have olive oil to thank. The conditioning ingredient is a key player in this styling cream, which is a much easier option than pouring a bottle of Bertolli over our heads.
"Floriental" is a word, and we're using it. The only way to describe the earthy, gourmand, and incredibly sexy Bulgari Goldea was by inventing a new word—floriental—and we think it will stick.
It is possible to have a filter IRL. What if we told you there was a way to get smooth, hydrated, matte, and poreless-looking skin on the daily? Without using Facetune. Just slather on DDF Wrinkle Resist Plus Pore Minimizer Moisturizing Serum and your complexion will look even and flawless. How's that for #nofilter?
Shaving cream is so last year. When Girls actress Allison Williams told us she uses the L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil to shave and that the supersmooth finish changed her world, it sounded like a bit of an overstatement. That is, until we tried it.
Good lip liner can be used for a million different things. It's hard to find a lip pencil that's both creamy and comfortable to wear and long-lasting at the same time. But the Mally Evercolor Shaping Shaping Lip Pencil manages to nail all our criteria, making it ideal for smudgeproof matte lips, natural-looking contouring or overlining, or even some creative lip art.
Aside from reflecting on our past month's loot, there's another good thing about April coming to a close. It means the arrival of our May Allure Beauty Box is that much closer. And when we say this is one for the books, we aren't joking around. OK, we'll throw you a bone. The May box will contain a full-size Lauren B. Beauty nail polish in Santa Barbara Surf, a light-turquoise shade that flatters any skin tone and is perfect for spring.
